Since 1978 we have commissioned many new vessels and upgraded vessels to prepare them for cruising. Recently there were three major projects completed. The 1989 Beneteau 50’ “AUSSIE RULES” was outfitted to cruise from St. Petersburg to Australia via the Panama Canal, Galapagos Islands and Tahiti.
Aussie Rules leaving for world cruisingA 40’ Hunter “CIRCE” was outfitted to do extended cruising, and a 52’ Irwin “EL-SEA” to cruise Florida and surrounding waters.
Hunter 40' The following is a quote from a long email sent from on board AUSSIE RULES: “We had initially planned to spend only three or four days in the Galapagos but we ended up spending a week; partly because we were waiting for a shipment of spare parts for AUSSIE RULES to arrive from Florida. I’m not one for shameless plugs but I must pause here to acknowledge someone. This trip wouldn’t have been possible but for three things: Wind, Water, and Page Obenshain.Page is the gentleman that had been looking after our yacht in St. Petersburg ever since we brought her up from the Caribbean in 1995. He owns and operates St. Petersburg Yacht Charters and Sales Inc. with a team of skilled and dedicated individuals. In addition to the years of great service that Page provided, he also oversaw the critical enhancements made to AUSSIE RULES in the months leading up to our departure. Geographical separation and time constraints didn’t allow us to personally see to these modifications and we could trust no one more than Page to carry them out on our behalf. With a steady barrage of requests from the Captain (owner) in a time frame that would make most long distance cruisers cry, Page and Co. worked their butts off to transform AUSSIE RULES from a coastal cruiser to an ocean crosser. Since our departure Page has made himself and his team available at work and at home to consult on gear problems and numerous questions we’ve had along the way. He’s prepared several care packages that we’ve received along the way, without which our progress would have been stopped altogether. If you’ve ever considered chartering or purchasing a sailboat and visiting the lovely Gulf Coast of Florida, St. Petersburg Yacht Charters and Sales Inc. should be and excellent place to start.” Footnotes: AUSSIE RULES had an engine fuel supply problem six days from any land and we talked them through the trouble-shooting and repair of the problem via sat phone on a Sunday morning at 6:50 am. EL-SEA’s owners had us remove carpet and install a complete teak and holly cabin sole and a custom built teak dining table as well as many electronic upgrades, survey suggestions, and engine room work.
